Ealing 3 Bridges Cricket Club Won by 5 runs
Match report
Sunday Vs Lampton c.c (Mumbai) Away 35 overs
Thanks to everybody who made the effort to turn up and play the game (even the boys who are fasting at present, Allah be praised!). The journey to Ascot commenced with only 9 players. A special thank you to Carlyle who made the journey from Greenford at my request at the 11th hour and the passerby, Steve Muddle Warfield C.C who obligingly volunteered.
It was a delightful little ground in salubrious settings of rural Berkshire. The Bridges team batted first and posted a below par score of 155 all out ( 33 overs). Hans 30, Aniq 20, Nav 20 and Shanon 20 N.O.
The host were soon in trouble and were losing wickets early and in quick succession with Carlyle weaving his magic and taking 4/27 and Cletus 3/25 at certain point in the game Mumbai were 91/8 still needing 66 runs to win, impossible, nearly?
The 9th Wicket partnership due to some poor fielding and one particular bad over took the score to 151/8 needing just 5 runs, on the final ball of the 21ST over the no.9 batsman was out LBW of Cletus. Until this point our only multi-faceted and international player (Navtej) was keeping wickets (very tidily) and quick swap was made with Johnny taking the gloves. The no.6 batsman was 63 not out having flayed the ball to all parts of the ground, in walked Nav with his little hop and skip, ( a female spectator shouted hit him for a six) the ball drifted out away from the off stump, the batsman gave the big heave ho, the ball pitched bounced and turned removing the middle stump. Result the Bridges team won by 5 runs. Well done!
