Hampton Wick Royal CC v Ealing 3 Bridges CC Sunday Team on Sun 30 May 2010 at 1.30
Ealing 3 Bridges CC Lost by one run
Match report
It a blustery old day enough to knock the caps off the fielders. Tis was a rural setting on Henry viii`s Royal park almost over looking Hampton Court. The home side won the toss and decided to bat, they had a steady start on a batting wicket and they posted a decent score of 6/181 of alotted 40 overs. There was very little in it for the bowlers despite that the Hampton Wick was never allowed to run away with the scoring.
On a batting wicket the score, although challenging should have been reached at a canter. The Bridges side with hindsight batting second might want to use this oppurtunity to learn from the experience, sending a batsman to open who`s only stroke is used both to attack and defend might need re-thinking also Cricket can be at times quiet exhausting (LOL), swiping and missing can be even more exhausting almost as tiresome as running singles (or not).
There is a need for all players at this level to show their skills at batting and so it is note worthy to say the Bridges Club in general makes every effort to ensure that this is the case.however in whatever circumstances it must be considered a folly if your best two batsman go in a 5 and 7 and then almost run out of overs to a win !!
Well the Bridges team appeared to be wining the game at a trot and then cluster of wickets fell(6) within a a space of a few overs and the game went down to the wire, two runs of two balls and on the penultimate ball the No.11 batsman was run out attempting a daring run with shot to shortist mid on, out come direct hit, result lost by one run with a ball to spare. Damn thing!
The highlight of the game - at the drinks break, having taken drinks,6 Bridges team members dissappeared into the dressing room leaving the batsman, umpires and 5 team members rather bemused in the middle. Such conduct should not go unmentioned!
