Ealing 3 Bridges CC Saturday 1st XI v Tower Hamlets CC on Sat 11 May 2013 at 13:00
Ealing 3 Bridges CC Won By 41 Runs
Match report
Salman bags 9/39 as Three Bridges (home) 1st XI beat Tower Hamlets CC (away) by 41 runs
Three Bridges fast bowler Salman showed the team what he is made of as he recorded career-best figures of 9 for 39 in the opening match of the MCL Third Division match at Home on Saturday. He has now surpassed the previous best figure of 8 for 16 which was held by Angus Philbert.
Three Bridges won the toss and skipper Cletus elected to bat first. Roger (46 – 8 x 4) and Anis (32 – 6 x 4) opened the innings for the team and did the job of taking the shine off the new ball. The duo put in a partnership of 55 for the first wicket. The team were going steady at 99 for 1 in 21 overs with Roger and Dilshan still on the pitch. Rain disrupted the match and umpire Dennis deducted 5 overs due to loss of time.
The match resumed 14:50 and it all ended up in a disaster for Three Bridges as Dilshan was run out for 16. Roger followed Dilshan as he was caught behind off the bowling of the medium pacer Jubayed. Sufyar was the most successful bowler for the Tower Hamlets with his spell of 5/63 in 20 overs. The entire team ramshackled for 145 as the middle order and tailenders batsmen added only 25 runs to the entire total. Three Bridges lost 6 wickets in no time the entire team was back in the pavilion for an early tea.
With a poor target on the scoreboard and relatively mediocre form of the squad in the warm up matches, the team had a very low bandwidth for any sort of error in their bowling and fielding. Salman took the opportunity to underline his 1st Team credentials with a devastating 11-over effort that gave him the best figures in championship league cricket this season. He was equally well supported and backed up by his team on the field. Faisal took three splendid catches in the cover position with one of them hit at him extremely low on the wrong hand and at the speed of a bullet.
The only wicket not credited to his name was taken by Kalyan as Roger took a blinder in the slip position. Thanks to Salman’s heroics, Tower Hamlets were dismissed for 104, giving Three Bridges a 41-run victory and 10 points on the league table.
